Readers’ Watchlist: WHEN ALL THE GIRLS HAVE GONE by Jayne Ann Krentz

final_JAK.inddI’m always on the lookout for the next Jayne Ann Krentz romantic suspense and I was not disappointed when I stumbled across a blurb and cover for her next book, When All The Girls Have Gone (the title just gives me the shivers…so cool):

When Charlotte Sawyer is unable to contact her step-sister, Jocelyn, to tell her that one her closest friends was found dead, she discovers that Jocelyn has vanished.

Beautiful, brilliant—and reckless—Jocelyn has gone off the grid before, but never like this. In a desperate effort to find her, Charlotte joins forces with Max Cutler, a struggling PI who recently moved to Seattle after his previous career as a criminal profiler went down in flames—literally. Burned out, divorced and almost broke, Max needs the job.

After surviving a near-fatal attack, Charlotte and Max turn to Jocelyn’s closest friends, women in a Seattle-based online investment club, for answers. But what they find is chilling…

When her uneasy alliance with Max turns into a full-blown affair, Charlotte has no choice but to trust him with her life. For the shadows of Jocelyn’s past are threatening to consume her—and anyone else who gets in their way…

I am beyond excited for this release. Her latest works under the JAK name have featured such amazing characters and I can’t wait to read this book. Spoiler alert…it will be a page turner. When All The Girls Have Gone releases on November 29th.

Happy reading,

Review: THE ART OF SINNING by Sabrina Jeffries

Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher. (Also, beware of spoilers…maybe…)

What happens when you pair an American artist who looks like Adonis with an opinionated, but kindhearted lady of the ton? Well, nothing less than a masterpiece called The Art of Sinning to be sure!

American artist Jeremy Keane refuses to return home and take over his father’s business. He’d much rather sample bevvies of beauties abroad, in search of a model for the provocative masterpiece he’s driven to paint. When he meets Lady Yvette Barlow at a London wedding, he realizes she’s perfect for his work—and determines to capture the young heiress’s defiant spirit and breathtaking sensuality on canvas.

No stranger to scandal, Yvette agrees to be Keane’s subject—in exchange for his help gaining entry to the city’s brothels he knows intimately, so she can track a missing woman and solve a family mystery. But when their practical partnership leads to lessons in the art of sinning, can they find a bold and lasting love?

The first book in Sabrina Jeffries new series, Sinful Suitors, is certainly a work of art…not to mention that cover! (Is anybody else falling deeper in love with Jeremy just staring at the cover?)

But, truthfully, Jeremy is more than just a pretty face. He’s witty, charming, wicked, and not to mention, downright hilarious at times. Though he is rumoured to be a rakehell, Jeremy proves himself to be a decent and (contrary to his own opinion of himself) selfless.

Yvette is an equally “arresting” character. Wary of rogues and men in general, Yvette is skeptical of Jeremy’s intentions.

Mr. Keane’s warm gaze poured over her like honey. “I don’t recall ever seeing you at my exhibit. Trust me, I would have remembered.”

A shiver danced down her spine before she could steel herself against reacting. Very nicely done. She’d have to be on her toes with this one. “We attended it in the morning. I daresay you were still lying foxed in some gaming hell or nunnery.”

“Good God, here we go,” Edwin [Yvette’s  brother] muttered under his breath,  recognizing the vulgar slang for bawdy house.

“I am rarely foxed and never in a nunnery,” Mr. Keane retorted, “for fear that it might tempt the ‘nuns’ to bite me.”

“I should love to know what you consider ‘rarely,'” Yvette said. “That you even know that ‘bite’ means ‘cheat’ in street cant shows how you must spend your days.”

“And how you must spend yours,” he said with a gleam in his eye. “After all, you know the terms, too.”

Though Yvette and Jeremy have a mutual attraction to one another, they each hold back for different reasons. Yvette is wary of rogues in general because of both the scandal that haunts her family and her own past. Likewise, Jeremy is also haunted my the memories of his first marriage and home. And, though, Jeremy’s past is shaded with death, I still felt that Yvette’s past was more heartbreaking – especially after the full truth is revealed towards the end of the novel. It went completely against my expectations of a family reunion – and it showed how much of a scoundrel Yvette’s disowned brother, Samuel, truly was. Samuel is, in some ways, the true villain of this novel even though his is not physically present on the story.

But it goes to show that a well-written villain still has the ability to manipulate others, even from a distance.

It isn’t until they individually overcome their pasts that Jeremy and Yvette can admit what they feel for the other. Both characters grow stronger in the course of the narrative and the reader is witness to both a tale of friendship and love.

Speaking of friendship, the growing bromance between Jeremy and Edwin was equally as touching (and funny) as the interactions between Jeremy and Yvette. Brought together by their individual wariness (aka fear) of their sisters, Edwin and Jeremy decide to open their own club…but that is a tale for another time. (No, really, Ms. Jeffries should write a novel based solely on the interaction between these two because they are so entertaining….it’s like watching a sketch comedy!)

The Art of Sinning is an imaginary masterpiece that combines humour and romance, and is home to a cast of characters with honourable intentions – some of which are hilariously misguided. A summer must-read!

RATING - 5 And look out for Edwin’s novel, The Study of Seduction, soon!

Ah, Jeremy! (aka One Very Sinful Suitor)

A few days ago, Heroes and Heartbreakers revealed the cover for the first book of Sabrina Jeffries‘ upcoming Sinful Suitors series, The Art of Sinning. But, of course, you may all remember Jeremy – the very sexy scene stealer – from How the Scoundrel Seduces.

However, if you haven’t had a chance to look at the cover or read the back blurb, hakuna matata (no worries) – we’ve got another look below:

American artist Jeremy Keane refuses to return home and take over his father’s business. He’d much rather sample bevvies of beauties abroad, in search of a model for the provocative masterpiece he’s driven to paint. When he meets Lady Yvette Barlow at a London wedding, he realizes she’s perfect for his work—and determines to capture the young heiress’s defiant spirit and breathtaking sensuality on canvas.

No stranger to scandal, Yvette agrees to be Keane’s subject—in exchange for his help gaining entry to the city’s brothels he knows intimately–so she can track a missing woman and solve a family mystery. But when their practical partnership leads to lessons in the art of sinning, can they rise from the ashes of their troubled pasts to find a bold and lasting love?

So what do we think of the very naughty expression on Jeremy’s face? It sure would be nice to be Yvette at that moment, huh?

How many of us are eagerly awaiting this novel…and how many of us (however unlikely) have no idea who Jeremy is?

Cover Reveal: THE PRINCE AND I by Karen Hawkins

Is Robin Hood’s secret identity finally going to be revealed? Okay, so technically Robin Hood doesn’t have a secret identity – he is Robin Hood – but Karen Hawkins has another historical romance novel, The Prince and I, releasing next year in August as part of the Oxenburg Princes series and this one features the heroine as an incarnation of Robin Hood.

10533307_1569008776665216_4564515373289090390_o

I, personally, can’t wait to see how this plays out because I love the classical Robin Hood character and want to see how Ms. Hawkins incorporates his traits into the new story. Course, this one will feature a whole lot more romance and I’m curious as to whether our hero will embody a bit more “Marian” just to balance things out. 😉

But, really, don’t you just love the colours they used for this cover? The background reminds me of the film, Brave, and plus the heroine is holding a bow and arrow. The cover artists were seriously channeling Merida for this one. And, lo and behold, the models are both fully dressed.

Who else is excited to read Ms. Hawkins’ retelling of Robin Hood?

Cover Reveal: WHEN DARKNESS ENDS by Alexandra Ivy

It must be Alexandra Ivy Day today, because we received TWO big announcements in less than 5 hours. First, Ms. Ivy announced her plans to expand her Guardians of Eternity world with a new series kicking off with Marked by Darkness and now we get to feast our eyes on the drop dead gorgeous cover for When Darkness Ends, which is not the final book of the series but the final book before Ms. Ivy starts to self-publish the series.

I saw the cover earlier on Wicked Scribes, but WOW!

Is he it beautiful or what?

Spotlight on THE SECRETS OF SIR RICHARD KENWORTHY by Julia Quinn

I missed the cover reveal for Julia Quinn’s upcoming novel, The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy, so I thought I’d share my thoughts/predictions about this novel instead:

Sir Richard Kenworthy has less than a month to find a bride. He knows he can’t be too picky, but when he sees Iris Smythe-Smith hiding behind her cello at her family’s infamous musicale, he thinks he might have struck gold. She’s the type of girl you don’t notice until the second—or third—look, but there’s something about her, something simmering under the surface, and he knows she’s the one.

Iris Smythe–Smith is used to being underestimated. With her pale hair and quiet, sly wit she tends to blend into the background, and she likes it that way. So when Richard Kenworthy demands an introduction, she is suspicious. He flirts, he charms, he gives every impression of a man falling in love, but she can’t quite believe it’s all true. When his proposal of marriage turns into a compromising position that forces the issue, she can’t help thinking that he’s hiding something . . . even as her heart tells her to say yes.

Needless to say, the similarities between this cover and the cover for The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever are uncanny. Although, that is not necessarily a bad thing because both covers are beautiful and a nice change from the usual theme of portraying a hero or heroine on the cover.

Likewise, this story also revolves around, judging by the blurb, a Plain Jane heroine – again much like Miranda’s.

But I can only hope that The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy showcases Ms. Quinn’s writing talent and well as Miranda’s novel. I have often thought of The Secret Diaries of Miss Miranda Cheever as one of her foremost works – funny, romantic and able to break our hearts in a thousand little ways, Miranda’s story was definitely Ms. Quinn at her best!

Cover Reveal: Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh

This just in…the cover for Rock Addiction by Nalini Singh has been unveiled!

A bad boy wrapped in a sexy, muscled, grown-up package might be worth a little risk…

Molly Webster has always followed the rules. After an ugly scandal tore apart her childhood and made her the focus of the media’s harsh spotlight, she vowed to live an ordinary life. No fame. No impropriety. No pain. Then she meets Zachary Fox, a tattooed bad boy rocker with a voice like whiskey and sin, and a touch that could become an addiction.

A one-night stand with the hottest rock star on the planet, that’s all it was meant to be…

Fox promises scorching heat and dangerous pleasure, coaxing Molly to extend their one-night stand into a one-month fling. After that, he’ll be gone forever, his life never again intersecting with her own. Sex and sin and sensual indulgence, all with an expiration date. No ties, no regrets. Too late, Molly realizes it isn’t only her body that’s become addicted to Fox, but her heart…

Rock Addiction is Ms. Singh’s return to contemporary romance – though not at the expense of her other series. According to Ms. Singh, you can enjoy this series “guilt-free” because she thought it up and wrote the first novel during her vacation time.

Other speculation includes that this is a self-published series, though I can attest that I received my ARC for this book through The Knight Agency – Ms. Singh’s usual agency.

Whether self-published or not, the good news is that their will be more books in the Rock Kiss series – a story for every member of Fox’s band!

What are we thinking about the cover? Are you green with envy…or green with another kind of feeling? (Excuse the very intentional puns.)

Cover Reveal: The Immortal Who Loved Me by Lynsay Sands

I love randomly browsing the net which, while hell on my writing, lets me discover new gems like the cover for Lynsay Sands‘ upcoming Argeneau novel, with a tentative release date of February 2015, The Immortal Who Loved Me:

A few hours ago, Sherry Carne would have sworn that vampires didn’t exist. That’s before rogue immortals rampage through her store, leaving bloody chaos (literally) in their wake. The kicker comes when Sherry learns that one of the vamps on the bad guys’ trail may be her life mate. Her head says it’s impossible. The rest of her takes one look at Basileios Argeneau and has much more interesting ideas.

Whatever Basil expected in a life mate, funny, outspoken Sherry isn’t it. But mind-blowing chemistry and instinct don’t lie. They tell him something else, too—that Sherry’s connection to the immortal world goes deeper than she knows. And that she’s in the kind of danger only Basil can save her from—if she’ll just trust him, now and forever…

I think it’s a fun cover with some serious mancandy!

Do you love it, hate it or couldn’t care less?

Cover Lover: SAY YES TO THE MARQUESS by Tessa Dare

Book two of the Castles Ever After series by Tessa Dare has a brand-spanking new cover, which was revealed last week! But if you were hiding in your hermit cave  like me and missed it, I thought I’d share the cover and the dose of coverlust on the blog. Here is the gorgeous cover for Say Yes to the Marquess!

Tessa Dare Stepback - Say Yes to the Marquess

The step back cover for Say Yes to the Marquess designed by the talented Alan Ayers.

After eight years of waiting for Piers Brandon, the wandering Marquess of Granville, to set a wedding date, Clio Whitmore has had enough. She’s inherited a castle, scraped together some pride, and made plans to break her engagement.

Not if Rafe Brandon can help it. A ruthless prizefighter and notorious rake, Rafe is determined that Clio will marry his brother—even if he has to plan the dratted wedding himself.

So how does a hardened fighter cure a reluctant bride’s cold feet?

● He starts with flowers. A wedding can’t have too many flowers. Or harps. Or cakes.

● He lets her know she’ll make a beautiful, desirable bride—and tries not to picture her as his.

● He doesn’t kiss her.

● If he kisses her, he definitely doesn’t kiss her again.

● When all else fails, he puts her in a stunning gown. And vows not to be nearby when the gown comes off.

● And no matter what—he doesn’t fall in disastrous, hopeless love with the one woman he can never call his own.

Is this cover beautiful or what?

For Black Dagger Brotherhood fans out there, we finally have a cover for The Shadows by J. R. Ward and it’s a good one!

Two brothers bound by more than blood discover a conspiracy that will change their destiny in the astonishing all-new novel of the Black Dagger Brotherhood, the “frighteningly addictive” (Publishers Weekly) series by #1 New York Times bestselling author J. R. Ward.

This is iAm and Trez’s book and, after the plot twister that was The King, this one promises to reveal even more secrets from the Black Dagger Brotherhood universe – and I for one, can’t wait!

Unfortunately, we all have to wait until April 7th, 2015 for this book to release in bookstores around the world. Till then we’ll all have to continue to speculate on all the possible routes this book could take and wait with baited breath for any teasers the Warden deems worthy of sharing.
