Cover Reveal: ARCHANGEL’S HEART by Nalini Singh

Nalini Singh shared the very stunning cover for Archangel’s Heart earlier today – and while I was lucky enough to have a sneak peek a few days before – I am still stunned by how amazing Elena looks. (Yes, I am still lusting over her dress.) Fair warning, Elena, I will be spending more time in your closet. 🙂

However, we still have a while to wait before we can read about the occasion when Elena gets to wear this blue maxi as the novel does not release until November 2016 (which is really just in time for my birthday – just thought I should put that out there in case there are any ARCs lying around).

But till then, we will have to satisfy our readerly hearts with this tease of a blurb:

One of the most vicious archangels in the world has disappeared. No one knows if Lijuan is dead or has chosen to Sleep the long sleep of an immortal. But with her lands falling into chaos under a rising tide of vampiric bloodlust, a mysterious and ancient order of angels known as the Luminata calls the entire Cadre together to discuss the fate of her territory.

Accompanying her archangelic lover Raphael to the Luminata compound, guild hunter-turned-angel Elena senses that all is not as it seems. Secrets echo from within the stone walls of the compound, and the deeper Elena goes, the uglier the darkness. But neither Raphael nor Elena is ready for the brutal truths hidden within—truths that will change everything Elena thinks she knows about who she is…

Nothing will ever be the same again.

I feel like I have been waiting for another Elena and Raphael novel since the last one ended. If you haven’t had a chance to read about this angelic (kickass but not so innocent) power couple then you are very lucky – not only do you not have to suffer book withdrawal but you get to catch up with their story before the next one releases.

Happy reading,

A Psy Net Special…Nalini Singh Visits Vancouver!

Nalini Singh and Me

I think I speak for the entire audience at the Book Warehouse last night when I say that Nalini Singh was an amazing speaker during her first ever visit to Vancouver. Not only did she bring some amazing goodies for her readers, she was warm and witty. Eager readers also got some burning questions answered…though some may lead to fangirl angst, such as in the case of the Guild Hunter series – but more on that later.

Starting with some of the highlights of the night…

  • It was once again confirmed that the Psy/Changeling series is going to be a very loooong running series.
  • Ms. Singh has written a novella about the Territorial Wars. However, no one but Ms. Singh had laid eyes on it because, according to her, there is something missing and until it’s perfect she refuses to submit it to her editor. (Oh, Ms. Singh, as if you could write anything less than perfect!)
  • We will be learning something about the mating bond between Riaz and Adria in the next Psy/Changeling novel. She refused to give an answer about whether or not it is possible for them to have a mating bond at the signing – as it will be a spoiler for the upcoming novel.
  • Also Ms. Singh did share some news about the next book in the Psy/Changeling series, stating that it would be a book about family and pack.

  • For the Guild Hunter series, all of the seven will be in a happy place when the series concludes – though they may not necessarily find a love interest.
  • Ms. Singh also mentioned that she has signed a contract for two more Guild Hunter novels, and states that there will be a third – though the possibility of a fourth is uncertain.

Now for the biggest lowlight of the night…avert your eyes if you are easily depressed…

  • The Guild Hunter series will not be as long as the Psy/Changeling series, only a few more novels at most as it is a single arc series. (I find this particularly sad because Angel’s Blood was the novel that started by Nalini Singh Fangirl Craze – and Elena will always be one of my favourite characters. On the other hand, I understand Ms. Singh’s sentiments to end the series will a high note, even if it will mean tears for her and me.).

And last but not least, Ms. Singh gave up the names of some of her favourite authors:

  1. J D Robb
  2. Anne McCaffrey
  3. Laura Florands
  4. Sharon Lee
  5. Sonali Dev
  6. Meljean Brook
  7. Illona Andrews
  8. Anne Gracie
  9. Jayne Ann Krentz

Finally, among the series highlights (and lowlight), Ms. Singh shared some advice for writers and some of her tips for staying motivated and focused while working on a novel.

The night was truly inspiring and fun. It was great to meet fellow fans and share our love of the worlds Ms. Singh has created!

Autographed Shards of Hope

Biggest highlight of my night was getting my very first autographed Nalini Singh book!

Nalini Singh Book Pins

…but the swag was pretty awesome, too!

I hope you visit Vancouver again, Ms. Singh!

P.S: I should also mention that it was awesome to meet the very mysterious Ashwini Singh, even though I was too star-struck to start a proper conversation! (Next time, Ashwini, next time…)

Booking My Summer…and Then Some!

Hi all,

Soooo it’s been a while, huh?

What can I say? Every time I thought about updating my blog, I was too tired to move…the thought’s about as far as it got. Teaching can drive you crazy it seems. And that sense of accomplishment? Most day’s I just end up waiting for it and it never arrives. Until Friday. And then…HALLELUJAH!

Long tangent short, I’ve been busy. 😦

But not too busy to start pre-ordering my summer/fall/winter reads, which include some of these highly anticipated novels by proven authors:

First up, Blood Kiss by J. R. Ward, Black Dagger Legacy book one:

The legacy of the Black Dagger Brotherhood continues in a spin-off series from the #1 New York Times bestselling author…

Paradise, blooded daughter of the king’s First Advisor, is ready to break free from the restrictive life of an aristocratic female. Her strategy? Join the Black Dagger Brotherhood’s training center program and learn to fight for herself, think for herself…be herself. It’s a good plan, until everything goes wrong. The schooling is unfathomably difficult, the other recruits feel more like enemies than allies, and it’s very clear that the Brother in charge, Butch O’Neal, a.k.a. the Dhestroyer, is having serious problems in his own life.

And that’s before she falls in love with a fellow classmate. Craeg, a common civilian, is nothing her father would ever want for her, but everything she could ask for in a male. As an act of violence threatens to tear apart the entire program, and the erotic pull between them grows irresistible, Paradise is tested in ways she never anticipated–and left wondering whether she’s strong enough to claim her own power…on the field, and off.

Second, Siren’s Call by Jayne Castle:

In the mysterious world of Harmony, there are places filled with unexplored marvels. But Rainshadow Island isn’t about to give up its secrets . . .

In the alien catacombs of Rainshadow, there are creatures whose compelling songs lure the unwary to their death. That’s why Rafe Coppersmith, hired to clear out the catacombs for exploration, needs a music talent. He knows the perfect one, but she probably doesn’t want anything do with him . . .

Ella Morgan had once fallen hard and fast for Rafe, but then he disappeared for months and he’s not about to tell her why. Ella, too, has secrets that only her dust bunny knows. She’s not just a music talent, she’s a Siren: a paranormal singer capable of singing men to sleep – or to their deaths.

But once on Rainshadow, Rafe and Ella will learn that surrendering to passion doesn’t come without risks – and fighting fire with fire only adds to the flame . . .

Read number three is none other than About a Vampire by Lynsay Sands:

In New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ new Argeneau novel, a vampire accustomed to seducing every woman he meets finds the one determined to resist him . . .

With immortal good looks and scorching charisma, Justin Bricker has yet to meet a woman he can’t win over. His potential life mate should be no different. But instead of falling into his bed, Holly Bosley runs away and ends up mortally wounded. To save her, he has to turn her. And then Bricker learns the shocking truth: Holly’s already married.

Holly wakes up with a bump on her head, a craving for blood, and a sexy stranger who insists they belong together. She needs Bricker’s help to control her new abilities, even as she tries to resist his relentless seduction. Choosing between the world she knows and the eternity he offers is impossible. But Justin is fighting for his life mate – maybe even his life – and he’ll break every rule to do it . . .

And because I love historical reads as much as paranormal ones, book four is Wildfire in His Arms by Johanna Lindsey:

#1 New York Times bestselling author Johanna Lindsey’s passionate new tale about a gunfighter running from his past who finds his future when he escorts a beautiful outlaw to her hanging. Featuring one of Lindsey’s most intriguing heroes: the dangerous and mysterious Degan Grant from One Heart to Win.

With his work in Montana completed now that the Callahan-Warren feud has ended in marriage rather than bloodshed, Degan Grant sets out for California because it is far away from the home he wants to forget – until the US Marshal who saved his life calls in a favor. All Degan has to do is apprehend three outlaws on the marshal’s list and turn them over to the law. Easy enough, he figures, for a man no one wants to tangle with.

But then a bold young woman crosses his path. Maxine grew up so pretty and attracted so much unwanted attention in her Texas hometown that events spiraled out of control. She will try anything to escape the handsome, enigmatic gunfighter who intends to turn her over to a corrupt sheriff who will hang her instead of putting her on trial.

Saddled with a sassy, spirited young woman who insists she is innocent, Degan must hunt down a vicious killer and keep an old enemy at bay. But forced into intimate proximity with his beguiling prisoner, he finds his desire sparking into a wildfire of passion, and he can no longer deny that it is time for them to risk confronting their pasts so he can have a chance at a future with her in his arms forever.

And that’s all I have on my list for now, with the exception of the upcoming Nalini Singh novels…but that’s a given. 😉

Cover Reveal: ROCK HARD by Nalini Singh

Hi all,

Just taking a short break from writing and teacherly-stuff to bring you the cover reveal for Nalini Singh‘s upcoming installment from the Rock Kiss series, Rock Hard.

ROCK HARD

In New York Times Bestselling author Nalini Singh’s newest contemporary romance, passion ignites between a gorgeous, sinfully sexy man who built himself up from nothing and a shy woman who has a terrible secret in her past…

Wealthy businessman Gabriel Bishop rules the boardroom with the same determination and ruthlessness that made him a rock star on the rugby field. He knows what he wants, and he’ll go after it no-holds-barred.

And what he wants is Charlotte Baird.

Charlotte knows she’s a mouse. Emotionally scarred and painfully shy, she just wants to do her job and remain as invisible as possible. But the new CEO—a brilliant, broad-shouldered T-Rex of a man who growls and storms through the office, leaving carnage in his wake—clearly has other plans. Plans that may be equal parts business and bedroom.

If Charlotte intends to survive this battle of wits and hearts, the mouse will have to learn to wrangle the T-Rex. Game on.

I gotta say, this is my favourite cover from the series so far. Wow, Gabriel is gorgeous – or at least the slight teaser of his jaw promises sinful beauty!

What do you think of the latest cover? Love it, hate it, or couldn’t care less?

Blurb Reveal: ARCHANGEL’S ENIGMA by Nalini Singh

I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus from blogging and writing recently – mostly due to first an annoying flu and then my post recovery laziness…and *cough* bingewatchingNarutoShippuden *cough*…but more on that later.

I did stop by on Twitter and Facebook a few times to share book news, but if you haven’t been following along, then be prepared for one very happy surprise!

Nalini Singh is writing Naasir’s story! Yes, that Naasir…the one who stole every heart and every scene in Archangel’s Shadows. And now finally the enigmatic Naasir is getting his own novel, very appropriately titled, Archangel’s Enigma.

Naasir is the most feral of the powerful group of vampires and angels known as the Seven, his loyalty pledged to the Archangel Raphael. When rumors surface of a plot to murder the former Archangel of Persia, now lost in the Sleep of the Ancients, Naasir is dispatched to find him. For only he possesses the tracking skills required—those more common to predatory animals than to man.

Enlisted to accompany Naasir, Andromeda, a young angelic scholar with dangerous secrets, is fascinated by his nature—at once playful and brilliant, sensual and brutal. As they race to find the Sleeping archangel before it’s too late, Naasir will force her to question all she knows…and tempt her to walk into the magnificent, feral darkness of his world. But first they must survive an enemy vicious enough to shatter the greatest taboo of the angelic race and plunge the world into a screaming nightmare…

We do have to wait until September 2015 to read it, but the next Psy-Changeling novel should dull the pain in the meantime.

So tell me…did Naasir steal your heart in Archangel’s Shadows or was he just another character?

Graphic Novels, Manga, Comics…A Rose by Any Other Name

Kaleigha over at Wicked Scribes recently posted about novel to comic book adaptions and whether or not they should be included as part of a series if they are only rewrites (or reinventions) of the original works. Personally, the geek in me is for anything graphic novel related, but I understand the limitations of such works…as well as their strengths.

Art sample from SWORD OF DARKNESS by Kinley MacGregor

Case in point, let’s take a look at some recent (and not so recent) adaptations of some of my favourite books and series by Sherrilyn Kenyon, Gena Showalter, and Nalini Singh.

Marvel has created comic books adaptations of Ms. Kenyon’s novels Lords of Avalon novels, written under her penname Kinley MacGregor. While I personally adored the adaptations, I know not everyone was a fan of the artwork, as well as the fact that some of the minor interactions between characters had to be cut out. On the other hand, the artists for this series did an amazing job using colour and keeping the basic story line and event descriptions the same. Compared to the novels, the sex scenes in the comics were not as explicit, and included more for furthering the plot.

On the other hand, if we look at the manga adaptations of Ms. Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series, the major as well as minor interactions between the character remain intact. Partly, this is due to the publisher’s decision to split each novel into two separate mangas – like the last Harry Potter film was split into two movies. Not to mention the improved level of artwork.

Artwork which is further improved in the Chronicles of Nick series – the third of Ms. Kenyon’s series to be adapted into manga format.

Romance publisher, Harlequin, has also been on the comic/manga bandwagon for a while. They’ve adapted most of the Harlequin Presents line into mangas, as well as recently transforming Ms. Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series into graphic novel format.

I also came across a manga adaptation previously done for Ms. Singh’s novel, Desert Warrior, from Harlequin’s Silhouette Desire line.

Opening from DESERT WARRIOR by Nalini Singh

More artwork from DESERT WARRIOR

Can’t say I’m the biggest fan of the artwork in Desert Warrior – though this is a much older adaptation and the dated artwork is to be expected – but it’s certainly a creative way to introduce new readers to novels. Not to mention if they make a graphic novel adaptation of Ms. Singh’s Guild Hunter series, I’d be the first in line to buy.

Though the artwork varies from novel to novel, all the graphic novel adaptation outlined in this post have strengths. Each of these graphic novels is a unique platform on which to engage new readers, plus the visualized scenes reaffirm the importance of key events in the novels. Graphic novels introduce readers to characters, setting, and story in a new light – strengthening the writer’s vision and founding an incarnation of this world in the readers’ minds.

Could…would you get on the graphic novel bandwagon or has that train firmly departed?

P.S: A special thanks to Kaleigha for inspiring this post!

Blurb Reveal: ROCK HARD by Nalini Singh

T-Rex and Charlotte officially have a blurb! I’ve been waiting for their story ever since the couple was introduced in Nalini Singh‘s Rock Addiction (book one of the Rock Kiss series), and it looks like book three Rock Hard is going to belong to Charlotte and Gabriel (aka T-Rex)…YES!

Any other eager T-Rex/Charlotte fans out there?

Also for those of you interested, there is an excerpt from Rock Hard on Ms. Singh’s blog.

A New Nalini Singh Cover…SLAVE TO SENSATION Gets a Makeover

When Nalini Singh announced that she would be posting a brand new cover on Facebook, just a little over twelve hours ago, to say I was excited would have been an extreme understatement. I was ecstatic, delirious, my curiosity roused beyond relief…so I was very happy when the cover was revealed a few hours ago.

I actually liked the original cover for Slave to Sensation, so I won’t be upgrading my copy. but if you weren’t a fan of the purple cover (below) now is your chance. If only they would reissue Angel’s Blood with a cover to fit the rest of the Guild Hunter series.

What do you think? Another amazing paranormal cover, non?

Cover Reveal: SHARDS OF HOPE by Nalini Singh

Check out the incomparable cover for Nalini Singh‘s upcoming Psy-Changeling masterpiece, Shards of Hope:

The “smoldering heat, epic romance, and awesome action” of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as two Arrows find themselves caught in a chilling conspiracy that spans all three races…

Awakening wounded in a darkened cell, their psychic abilities blocked, Aden and Zaira know they must escape. But when the lethal soldiers break free from their mysterious prison, they find themselves in a harsh, inhospitable landscape far from civilization. Their only hope for survival is to make it to the hidden home of a predatory changeling pack that doesn’t welcome outsiders.

And they must survive. A shadowy enemy has put a target on the back of the Arrow squad, an enemy that cannot be permitted to succeed in its deadly campaign. Aden will cross any line to keep his people safe for this new future, where even an assassin might have hope of a life beyond blood and death and pain. Zaira has no such hope. She knows she’s too damaged to return from the abyss. Her driving goal is to protect Aden, protect the only person who has ever come back for her no matter what.

This time, even Aden’s passionate determination may not be enough—because the emotionless chill of Silence existed for a reason. For the violent, and the insane, and the irreparably broken…like Zaira.

Do we love it? Hate it? Or are we stuck on our neighbour’s fence about this one?

Well, cover or no…I’ve only got one thing to say to Aden:

So bring it on!

PsyNet Breaking News!

This just in, Nalini Singh has penned a love story of epic proportions between two Arrows. Aden, a name which has been buzzing on the Net for a while now, and Zaira – a surprising new addition – have eloped! (Okay, this reporter is taking liberties with the term “eloped” but we are not disqualifying that as an option.)

Shards of Hope, releasing in 2015, will be the next installment of Ms. Singh’s action-packed Psy/Changeling series:

The “smoldering heat, epic romance, and awesome action”* of Nalini Singh’s New York Times bestselling series continues as two Arrows find themselves caught in a chilling conspiracy that spans all three races…
